Does marketing for forums work?

Marketing has always been one of the main strategies for helping you get your website well known and out there for people to find however a few people are saying that with certain genres sometimes marketing does not work.

What are your thoughts on marketing for forums? Does it work or does it depend on the genre of the forum as to whether you will achieve results?

I believe marketing for any kind of site works if you do it enough. Maybe with things like forums it is a little more over done so it can seem like it's not working as well but even if it just works a little and helps it's better than nothing at all.

According to me marketing is one of the technique which will helpful for business purposes. Forum is also helpful in case of website traffic and website visibility through different search engines which will also helpful for business.
