Yes, exactly. I think if the traffic you want is the "average" surfer you're best to go with a .com over anything else. I do think that's what comes to mind first for most people.

That's an interesting point. I've never thought someone using the .org or .net version of a name was trying to siphon traffic from the .com of the same name, just that the person really wanted that domain name.
I know a few people that get a ton of free traffic by owning the .net and .org of a popular .com website. It happens all the time. Too bad these big .com companies didnt spend just a tad more and buy the other two extentions and keep all the traffic for themselves.
