An auction listing a number of festive generic domains has been launched by Sedo, it has emerged.
According to TheHostingNews.com, a host of web addresses will be available including
Christmas.co.uk, ChristmasGifts.co.uk, ChristmasHampers.co.uk and Stuffing.co.uk.
Commenting on the auction, Sedo's UK operations director Nora Nanayakkara said the sites
represented an excellent opportunity for retailers.
"By purchasing a generic co.uk Christmas internet domain name at auction, organisations can
capture a bigger chunk of the growing UK online festive spend," she said.
She added that generic domain names are a good way for people to generate large volumes of
natural traffic and significantly improve search engine rankings.
"A generic Christmas co.uk internet domain name also strengthens a company's online brand," she
concluded.
It is reported that the auction will draw to a close on Tuesday November 27th at 12:00 GMT.
A recent study conducted by the Interactive Media in Retail Group found that shoppers in the UK
will spend over $20 billion online during the fourth quarter of 2007.
