The Internet Advertising Bureau claims that having the right domain can mean the difference between failure and success â alongside a number of other measures which can boost an online business.
Jack Wallington, programmes manager at the IAB, adds that a catchy domain name can help in terms of search engine optimisation.
He said: "Domain names and URLs are vitally important.
"A domain or URL tells a search engine what a website is fundamentally about and carries a lot of weighting in deciding how important a site is to a topic."
Generic domain names are particularly recommended as they are more catchy and memorable that their 'nonsense' or brand name counterparts.
Having a generic domain name can also help customers to return to your business over and over as they can type the memorised address straight into the address bar.
