I'm quite new to parking too, but I get the impression that it would be very possible to spend considerable money too soon and not have an efficient return on it.

Like anything else you have to really weigh the learning curve and effort against your ability to absorb loss. One of the problems I always have is my need to find out just one more thing before I actually try.
I bet if you start small with a practice domain, as stated in a previous post, you will get the hang of it.
Just remember...Rome wasn't built in a day, nor burnt in an hour.
