It's small piece of data (script) sent from a website you visit to the user's computer by the user's browser. It may store usernames, sometimes passwords, or often simply to remember useful information like items added in the shopping cart or to record the user's browsing activity such as button clicks and tracking which pages were visited in the past, etc.

Web cookie is the small piece of data that is sent from the website and hence it is then stored on the user computer while the user is browsing the internet.It was designed to be a reliable mechanism for the website so that they can remember the information contained in them.
